My Story

I’m a graphic designer of 18 years (mostly doing financial designs and requests for proposals “rfps”) who has been building their illustration and surface pattern design/textile design portfolio for the last 4 years. I’m learning and perfecting my own way of illustrating. Part old school and part new school. I like creating compositional sketches, fake fauna, and shapes in my sketchbook - bringing them into Adobe Photoshop and then into Adobe Illustrator and playing around with those compositions to see what I can create. I generally go by what feels good to me and what my intuition is leading me to do. I’ve been taking bits and pieces of information from other artists in the industry and learning what works for me. It’s a fine balance - to learn your own method of creation. My ultimate goal is to not worry about how long a piece is going to take me to make, but to focus on creating pieces that are special no matter how simple or complex they are. 

Some tactile things I have gained while learning how to illustrate and make patterns.
• An appreciation for simple patterns as well as complex patterns. 
• Layering patterns over patterns
• Repetition of size and scale
• Color can change the patterns mood and intention drastically
• Simple black and white is just the best
• Sometimes it feels like magic
